    INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

International Day of Yoga 2021, to be observed today, i.e. Monday (June 21), carries the theme "Yoga for well-being", much relevant for our times in a society still recovering from the impact of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
International Day of Yoga is celebrated with much fervour every year on June 21. This year, the International Yoga Day 2021 will be celebrated on Monday i.e. today, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the seventh such event at 6:30am. The theme for the International Day of Yoga this year is 'yoga for wellness', a motto aligned to the current pre-occupations. As it is an event of a global scale, preparations for the International Yoga Day event usually begin 3-4 months prior, ultimately culminating in a grand programme where millions of people come together to observe the spiritual history and significance of the day.

The idea behind the day is to create awareness about yoga and its many benefits. The idea of an International Yoga Day was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 in the United Nations General Assembly Meeting. It is said that the word ‘yoga’ was first mentioned in the sacred text of the Rig Veda.

Yoga is an ancient meditative technique that cleanses, heals and harmonises the body from the core. It is a practice that is widely accepted even in Western cultures for its tremendous capacity to bring about a great improvement in mind and body balance, wellness of the mind, and an overall sense of calmness.
As part of The International yoga day KUCTE KULAKKADA had conducted a webinar based on 'Yoga for boosting immunity during ongoing pandemic.'
The webinar was so useful in understanding different type of Asanas in yoga. The resource person gave detailed explanation regarding the importance of yoga in our present scenario.
*International Yoga Day celebrates the healing and calming spirit of Yoga which is an ancient science central to India. Happy Yoga Day to all!
